The EPS Protocol: Redefining Project Health with Execution Probability Scores

2asana EngineeringFebruary 22, 2026

"In Progress." It’s the most dangerous status in project management. Without a quantitative definition, it can mean anything from "we've started thinking about it" to "it's 99% done but blocked by a minor email." This subjectivity is where deadlines go to die.

EPS Protocol FAQ

To solve the clarity gap, we developed the EPS (Execution Probability Score) Protocol. It transforms the subjective "feeling" of project health into an objective, standardized mathematical baseline.

"Subjective status is the enemy of execution. In an environment of high-signal observation, health is measured in probability, not vibes."

1. The Authority Vectors

The EPS engine doesn't just look at checkboxes. It observes the narrative flow of a task. It analyzes the linguistic sentiment of comments—detecting the difference between a "technical deep-dive" and "frustrated circular discussion."

By combining this with temporal data (is the work activity accelerating or decelerating as the deadline approaches?), the engine produces a score that reflects the true tactical reality. This process is detailed in our Inference Engine documentation.

2. Eliminating the "Optimism Bias"

Humans are naturally optimistic. We believe we can finish that task tomorrow, even if we've been saying that for three days. AI is indifferent to these internal narratives.

The EPS Protocol forces a confrontation with the data. If a task has zero activity for 7 days, its EPS will naturally decay, alerting leadership to a potential Chaos Tax before it becomes a delivery failure.

3. Standardizing Cross-Team Health

In a large organization, every PM has a different definition of "Red." One team's red might be another team's yellow. EPS standardizes this across your entire infrastructure.

Whether you are managing Technical Assets or high-level strategic verticals, the probability score remains the universal language of project observation.

EPS Input Vectors

  • Narrative Sentiment Analysis.
  • Deadlines & Proximity Deltas.
  • Vertical Priority Weighting.

Strategic Outcomes

  • 100% Objective project visibility.
  • Early-warning detection of slippage.
  • Reduced meeting load for status syncs.

Establishing Your Baseline

The first step toward mathematical project health is data ingestion. By initializing your observation node, 2asana will begin analyzing your historical narratives to build a baseline EPS for your team.

Stop managing by vibes. Start managing by probability.
